Mastering the TIE/NIE Process: Your Key to Long-Term Stay in Spain

TIE (Tarjeta de Identidad de Extranjero) and NIE (Número de Identificación de Extranjero) is the number of TIE.

If you’re a non-EU citizen planning to stay in Spain for more than 90 days, you’ll need to apply for a TIE.

Within 30 days of your arrival in Spain, you will need to visit the Foreigners’ Office (Oficina de Extranjeros) with required documents.

To obtain your NIE (Número de Identificación de Extranjero) in Spain, you’ll typically need the following documents:

  1. Application Form (Modelo EX-15)
  2. Passport and a Copy
  3. Empadronamiento (Official registration of residency with a specific municipality or town).
  4. Reason for NIE: Include a document explaining the purpose of your NIE application, such as work, study, investment, real estate purchase, or other legitimate reasons.
  5. Supporting Documents: Depending on the application reason, provide relevant documents, such as a job offer or employment contract for work-related applications, or a letter of acceptance from a Spanish educational institution for student visa applications.
  6. Sufficient Funds: Ensure you have a local bank account with enough funds (IPREM) to support your stay in Spain.
  7. Health Insurance
  8. Proof of Payment (Tasa Modelo 790): Show evidence of the paid NIE application fee. The fee amount varies based on your situation and location.

Having all the required documents ready will help streamline the TIE application process and ensure a smooth experience.
